Authors note: In many middle schools across the U.S.A there is always a group of "the popular girls". These girls are powerful and vein. After reading this, think twice about the saying "sticks and stones may break my bones but words can never hurt".
Massie, Dylan Alicia , Kristen and the newest member Claire are all part of the pretty committee. They are the five girls that rule the school and insist on it staying that way. The girls live in Westchester,NY. A town where money is all that matters. Mansion estates line up for almost every child that attends Octavian Country Day school for girls or Briarwood Academy for boys.
Speaking of wealthy kids and big houses. One particular OCD Westchester native, Massie Block. Massie and her family have it all. The money, the looks, the house and reguarding Massie, popularity. Her best friends have it the same. Except Kristen. Kristen's family struggles with money and attends OCD with scholarship. The grades don't always matter to Massie and her wealthy friends. Clothes, keeping her populat reputaion, and her black pug named Bean are the things that are number one to her.
I like this book because it shows how some people can really be. Also I can relate to this because I am in 7th grade too. The girls in this book care so much about materialistic things that its something to laugh at and not something to idolize. These girls are very fortunate, so they've always had their wishes granted without a hesitant.
Since 2004 the percentage rate of cliques and reports for catty and mean girls have incresed 26%. Of that 26% the majority is middle school and high school girls. Cliques can make such a big impact on a girls life. The smallest words ccan ruin her day or ruin her self-confidence. Before you ever got to hurt somebody think about how it would feel to be placed in their shoes.
